The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), will host the Second GCC Statistical Forum on December 9and 10, 2019. Preceding this event, a Datathon will be held from October 28th to November 3rd, 2019.
Speaking about this occasion, HE Dr. Khalifa bin Hamad al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, said: “The GCC forum, which is held every two years in one of the GCC member countries and dedicated to statistical issues and topics, embodies the interest and attention given to information and statistics which form the basis on which planning and decision-making processes are built. Furthermore, the forum is an opportunity to review the latest international practices in information and statistics filed and to exchange experiences.
Themed “Smart Data”, the forum reflects the developments and changes unfolded in information and statistics official work in the region. It stresses on how the apparatuses concerned with information and statistics are keen to be in line with the 4IR, benefiting from its outputs in developing the official statistics and investing the wealth of information in different developmental sectors to support sustainable planning and decision making.
The Second GCC Statistical Forum aims to upgrade and develop the capabilities, efficiencies and skills of personnel working in information and statistics field through optimizing and harnessing technological advancements in creating creative statistical solutions for some main developmental sectors in GCC”.
HE Dr. Khalifa pointed out that the forum seeks to benefit from quality local and international initiatives and experiences in developing the official statistical system for generating statistics from renewable sources.
“Ahead of the forum, there will be a five-day Datathon for developing the skills of participants in data analysis by using the latest technologies, after receiving training by GBM.
The Datathon kicks off with a 3-day training course on data science and technologies followed by a competition among the participants on creating information technological solutions benefiting information and statistics field.
