Majd Abbar : National Technology Officer – Middle East Cluster – Microsoft

Majd spent nineteen years at Microsoft HQ in Redmond where he established the Middle East and Emerging Markets Windows teams, delivered and executed the full Global Language Plan to scale the next releases of Microsoft’s flagship product Windows to 115 languages and drove operational transformation at MS HQ by implementing widely adopted new strategies and processes across Business and Engineering groups. Majd moved to Qatar in 2012 to join Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), a member of Qatar Foundation. During this time, he worked closely with government, private and public sector entities on nation-wide initiatives and established the commercialization model that led to the creation of several IT startups. He also participated in the establishment of the Qatar Center for Artificial Intelligence and in drafting the Qatar National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

Majd has a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University and an M.B.A. in Management Information Systems from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.
